John Harrison holds a Master of Arts in modern Russian literature, awarded by the University of Exeter, UK.

From September 2008 John is an Editor-in-Chief in Passport Magazine in Moscow ( is a lifestyle magazine for expats in Russia).

In 2006–2008 John worked as Editor-in-Chief and project manager of "CRE (Commercial Real Estate magazine) China" ( published by ImpressMedia Moscow, written and edited in Beijing, China. This was a bi-monthly 56 page magazine in English and mandarin Chinese. Target audience of this magazine – real estate professionals in China and worldwide. During this period he chaired frequent real estate conferences (such as the Adam Smith yearly conference) and seminars, and also spoke on economic issues in general. Also John was business and cultural freelance writer for: The South China Morning Post, The Moscow Times, Urban Land Institute, Euro Property.

In 1987–2005 John was a freelance business writer and producer for The Moscow Times, Business Review, ABC and NBC news in Moscow.

In 1989–2003 he was a proprietor of media company 'IntoRussia Ltd', Moscow which assisted foreign companies entering the Russian market. Main activities of this company included: desk-top publishing, design, translation and printing of corporate publications, corporate and television production.

John published 'Oil & Gas in the SNG' and 'Polymers and Rubbers' for SKC Communications, UK as part of this business.
